Vesavar Art Gallery is hosting a thought-provoking solo exhibition by author-artist Saikat Baksi, titled “Trapped”, running until September 9, 2025. The show presents conceptual artworks created over the past 15 years, reflecting the artist’s deep engagement with the human condition.
Baksi believes an artist must spend more time living life than before the canvas, since creativity, for him, arises from the victories and defeats of mortal existence. His works probe how mankind is ensnared in cobwebs of desire, greed, fear, sorrow, and ambition. He compares humanity to passengers aboard a train rushing toward destruction, too afraid to jump despite knowing the end.
The collection portrays the suffocating traps of habits, conventions, and comfort zones—bondages that people often accept unconsciously. Each piece conveys a sense of confinement, revealing the masks of diplomacy, hypocrisy, and falsehood that dominate modern life.
Baksi, widely recognized as a bestselling author of six novels and a book of poems, is also known for his podcast Art Beyond Canvas, where he discusses unusual turns in art history. His artworks, dark in tone and unflinching in subject, may divide opinion, but they demand attention and are not easily forgotten.
With “Trapped”, Vesavar Art Gallery offers viewers an unsettling yet memorable encounter with an artist who refuses to soften the truth.
