This artwork belongs to my early exploration of punctuation as a visual language—long before Commascapes came into existence. Almost two decades ago, I began to see these simple, often overlooked marks not merely as elements of grammar, but as forms capable of expressing human emotions, relationships, and deeper philosophical ideas.

In this work, the question mark becomes the Shishya
(student)—bowing to the ground, humble and seeking. The exclamation mark stands
as the Guru (teacher)—upright, steady, and full of clarity. With the
slightest shift in form and placement, these marks begin to resemble human
gestures, transforming language into a quiet visual narrative.
The essence of the idea lies in a thought that feels both
simple and profound:
a question, when it bows with sincerity, transforms into understanding.
I have intentionally kept the composition minimal. There
are no additional decorative elements—just two prominent forms (the question
mark and the exclamation mark) and a single, small parenthesis between them to
denote a blessing. The space within the work becomes important, as it allows
the viewer to pause, reflect, and complete the meaning through their own
experience.
What continues to move me is how naturally people connect with this piece. Over time, it has travelled widely across digital platforms, especially during Guru Purnima, where it is often shared as a symbolic gesture of respect and gratitude. The work has been embraced by celebrities, artists, athletes, politicians, educational institutions, and the general public, finding a meaningful place in both cultural and academic spaces. A particularly special moment was when Mr. Amitabh Bachchan shared this work on his Facebook page (FB 2784), allowing it to reach an even larger and more diverse audience.

For me, this artwork goes beyond punctuation or design. It
captures a timeless moment—where curiosity lowers itself, and wisdom simply
stands… continuing forever in the quiet, unspoken grammar of reverence.
