"Timeless Kashi" Solo Show of Paintings by renowned artist Santosh Kumar Sandilya at Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery

Renowned Ganga Jal Artist Santosh Kumar Sandilya, internationally celebrated as “The Ganga Jal Artist,” will present his much-awaited solo exhibition “Timeless Kashi” at Bajaj Art Gallery, Mumbai from 27th April to 3rd May 2026.

The exhibition showcases a stunning new collection of original oil paintings that capture the eternal soul of Varanasi with its majestic ghats, sacred temples, bustling river life, and the divine presence of Lord Shiva. What makes these works truly unique is Sandilya’s signature technique: every painting is created using holy Ganga Jal (water from the sacred River Ganges) instead of regular water. This sacred medium infuses each canvas with spiritual energy, devotion, and the living essence of Kashi, turning every stroke into a meditative prayer.

“Ganga Jal is not just a medium for me but is a form of devotion,” says Santosh Kumar Sandilya. “Before I touch the brush, I purify the canvas with the holy waters of Ma Ganga. Each painting carries the timeless beauty, heritage, and divine energy of Banaras and Lord Shiva. Through ‘Timeless Kashi,’ I want viewers to feel the same peace, power, and spirituality that I experience every time I paint on the banks of the Ganges.”

The exhibition features large-scale landscapes and intricate scenes of Varanasi’s ghats, temples, boats, and evening aartis, all brought to life with vibrant colors and luminous light. Visitors will experience the mystical aura of Kashi, the world’s oldest living city, as never before, with the holy Ganga literally flowing through the artworks.

Santosh Kumar Sandilya, a distinguished alumnus of Banaras Hindu University’s Lalit Kala Department, has earned global acclaim for transforming painting into a sacred ritual. His works have been exhibited across India and abroad, and he is widely recognized for preserving and promoting the spiritual and cultural heritage of Varanasi through art.

“Beneath the Surface” An Exhibition of Paintings By renowned artist Manish Sharma at Jehangir Art Gallery

Since 1992, artist Manish Sharma has been devoted to the quiet yet profound language of dry media—charcoal and sepia powder—working on canvas with a sensitivity that transforms material into memory. His practice does not merely observe nature; it listens to it. At the heart of his work lies water—not as spectacle, but as a patient, invisible force—shaping, eroding, and silently composing the earth over time.

Manish  draws inspiration from the way rivers carve their paths through hills and mountains, leaving behind traces of time etched into stone. This slow, persistent act of transformation becomes the essence of his visual vocabulary. His drawings unfold through layered textures and disciplined gestures, where each mark carries the weight of erosion, sediment, and time itself.

At first glance, his works appear abstract—fields of texture, tonal depths, and shifting surfaces. Yet, as the eye lingers, they begin to reveal a terrain: weathered rock, distant ridges, and the quiet vastness of geological memory. Sharma does not depict landscapes; he evokes their presence. His surfaces breathe with depth and distance, allowing viewers to feel rather than see the expanse of nature.

A distinguished contemporary Indian Artist, Manish Sharma’s artistic journey spans over three decades. Recognized by the Lalit Kala Akademi, his works have been exhibited widely across India and internationally. His practice reflects a deep engagement with material, surface, and form, earning him multiple national accolades and inclusion in significant institutional collections.

In this exhibition, Manish  presents a compelling new body of work in sepia tones. Employing charcoal powder, sepia powder, and white chalk powder, he constructs a restrained yet evocative palette that becomes the central voice of the series. These works continue his exploration of water’s quiet force—where time, erosion, and transformation converge into textured visual landscapes.

His compositions move fluidly between abstraction and realism. Layer upon layer, surfaces begin to disclose mountains, eroded terrains, and deep geological formations—never fully revealed, yet unmistakably present. Each work invites the viewer into a contemplative space, where distance, depth, and dimension are experienced rather than defined.

Within the larger framework of “Beneath the Surface,” Sharma’s works offer a meditative pause—an introspective journey into nature’s unseen processes. Here, the earth is not static, but constantly becoming; and through his art, we are reminded of the enduring, quiet beauty of transformation.
