“Grammar of Reverence” by Ashok Namdeo Hinge – Visual Artist, Mumbai

This artwork belongs to my early exploration of punctuation as a visual language—long before Commascapes came into existence. Almost two decades ago, I began to see these simple, often overlooked marks not merely as elements of grammar, but as forms capable of expressing human emotions, relationships, and deeper philosophical ideas.

In this work, the question mark becomes the Shishya (student)—bowing to the ground, humble and seeking. The exclamation mark stands as the Guru (teacher)—upright, steady, and full of clarity. With the slightest shift in form and placement, these marks begin to resemble human gestures, transforming language into a quiet visual narrative.

The essence of the idea lies in a thought that feels both simple and profound:
a question, when it bows with sincerity, transforms into understanding.

I have intentionally kept the composition minimal. There are no additional decorative elements—just two prominent forms (the question mark and the exclamation mark) and a single, small parenthesis between them to denote a blessing. The space within the work becomes important, as it allows the viewer to pause, reflect, and complete the meaning through their own experience.

What continues to move me is how naturally people connect with this piece. Over time, it has travelled widely across digital platforms, especially during Guru Purnima, where it is often shared as a symbolic gesture of respect and gratitude. The work has been embraced by celebrities, artists, athletes, politicians, educational institutions, and the general public, finding a meaningful place in both cultural and academic spaces. A particularly special moment was when Mr. Amitabh Bachchan shared this work on his Facebook page (FB 2784), allowing it to reach an even larger and more diverse audience.

For me, this artwork goes beyond punctuation or design. It captures a timeless moment—where curiosity lowers itself, and wisdom simply stands… continuing forever in the quiet, unspoken grammar of reverence.

"BENEATH THE SURFACE" Paintings & Sculpture Exhibition by 4 contemporary Renowned artists at Jehangir Art Gallery

Opening at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Auditorium Hall, ‘Beneath the Surface’ brings together four artists whose practices are rooted in an engagement with what lies beyond immediate visibility. The exhibition is less concerned with surface resolution and more with the internal negotiations, of memory, material, and lived experience, that precede and shape the final work. It asks the viewer to slow down, to look past the evident, and to encounter the quieter, often unresolved tensions embedded within each piece.

Charanjeet Singh’s works move between past and present, drawing from architectural memory and historical visual languages to construct spaces that feel both intimate and distant. His paintings hold a sense of time layered upon itself, where fragments of history are neither preserved nor erased, but reconfigured.

Manish Sharma approaches the landscape as a psychological terrain. Working within a restrained palette, he builds images that oscillate between recognition and ambiguity. These are not depictions of place, but states of perception, where structure dissolves into texture and memory resists clarity.

Abhishek Mandala’s sculptural language centres on the human figure as a site of pressure and transition. His forms suggest bodies shaped by forces larger than themselves, economic, social, and spatial, where endurance and fragility exist in constant negotiation.

Kaushik Gajjar reflects on the idea of dwelling, not as static architecture but as a living, relational condition. His compositions evoke built environments that seem to lean, connect, and respond to one another, suggesting a collective life embedded within structure.

Elegantly curated by Ojas Desai, the exhibition is guided by a measured and thoughtful vision, one that privileges depth over display, and invites a sustained, attentive viewing experience.

“Yellow Canvas 2026” A Children’s Art Exhibition at Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery I 18th & 19th April 2026

The Yellow Canvas Platform presents Yellow Canvas: A Children’s Art Exhibition 2026, an initiative led by Sohan Kumar Choudhary, an alumnus of Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art. Conceived as a space to recognise and nurture emerging talent, the exhibition brings together a diverse body of work by young artists trained under his guidance, with 81 students from Sr. KG to Grade 12 participating in this edition

At its core, the exhibition celebrates creativity as an essential and deeply human faculty. It reflects a pedagogical commitment that moves beyond technical instruction, encouraging students to develop independent visual languages while grounding them in strong foundational and advanced artistic principles. Over the years, many participants from this ecosystem have progressed into fields such as applied art, product design, graphic design, fashion, and interior design, with several establishing themselves as practicing professionals, educators, and international exhibitors.

This edition expands its scope by including works from students based across the United States, Germany,  UAE, Armenia, Canada, Belgium, Thailand, Netherlands, and Singapore. The exhibition thus situates itself within a broader global dialogue, while remaining rooted in Indian artistic traditions, including engagements with folk forms and regional visual cultures.

Yellow Canvas 2026 is not merely a display of youthful expression but an evolving platform that fosters discipline, imagination, and cultural exchange. By creating an environment that is both structured and exploratory, the initiative underscores the importance of sustained engagement with art from an early stage.

The exhibition stands as a testament to the role of mentorship in shaping future creative practices, offering young artists both visibility and encouragement in their formative years.

Solo Show of Sculptures by renowned sculptor Dr. Venkata

Dr Karaka Venkata Rao’s art moves with the restless rhythm of water, rising powerful and unyielding in the wake of human excess. The reminiscence of a place he called home, interspersed with nostalgia, marks the basis of the layers of depth he incorporates in the sculptures. He relentlessly sifts through archaic constructs of timelessness that reflect unhindered metamorphosis of the surroundings but steers clear of advocating or preaching. The sculptures encompass shards of primitive and traditional symbolism that remain strikingly relevant in today’s world. The men and women depicted in the sculptures exude a mythical dominance that sets the tone for an understanding of the nature that has seen a transient shift from being pure to its present-day impurity.  Dr Venkat Rao is observant of his surroundings and questions the systems that sustain life and its marginalized approach to endure nature’s wrath. In his sculptures, Dr Venkat places nature at the center of human existence. The figures that emerge from his studio are not isolated bodies but creatures shaped by tides, wind, salt, and soil. Fishermen, women, and hybrid forms appear as extensions of the coastal world around them. Their gestures swerve in a sea of a honeycombed scape encompassing multitudes of worlds in a weave, enmeshed in the memory of the fishermen’s nets that lay waiting.

Sculptor: Dr. Venkata

My reaction to human's savage flaws has transformed into forms which are partly human and partly in animal form. But, my concerns towards humans have flipped my verdict on them turning them into gorgeous gargoyles which are metaphorical depictions of metropolitan human's convoluted life," says Dr Venkat as he speaks about his sculptures.

These sculptures echo the lived experiences of the communities by the sea, for whom the sea is the lifeline. In these works, nature is not scenery. It is the governing force that structures life, labour, and survival. The sculptures also register the strain placed on this fragile relationship with nature. The bodies carry marks of imbalance, of waters thickened by waste and shorelines slowly altered by human intervention. K Venkata Rao’s practice reflects a world where nature continues to speak, even as its voice is strained by neglect. His figures stand as witnesses to a landscape that has shifted from abundance to uncertainty.

Armed with bamboo, paper, resin and swaths of fabric, he builds sculptures that turn everyday materials into eye-catching creations. At times, he paints the sculptures giving them a semi-realistic appearance, his practice is further informed by the enduring sculptural traditions embedded in the temples of Andhra Pradesh.

What emerges is a visual field where humanity and environment remain inseparable, bound together in a tense coexistence where the recovery of nature becomes both a memory and a demand.

This show will be inaugurated on 14th April 2026 at 5pm by Honourable Guests Dr. Achal Pandya(Professor and Head of the Division(Conservation) Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts(IGNCA) Janpath, New Delhi, Ms. Vinita Mirchandani(Studio 3 Art Gallery, Mumbai), Mr. Ratan Krishna Saha(Eminent Sculptor)
