Embrance – In Pursuit of the colossal Being
Recent works by well-known artist Vikas Karve from Sangli will be showcased in a solo art exhibition at Jehangir Art Gallery, M.G. Road, Mumbai 400001, from 27th April to 3rd May 2026, between 11 am and 7 pm. Open to all, the exhibition offers an immersive journey into Karve’s deeply personal artistic interpretations of nature—its vastness, quiet beauty, and ever-changing moods—along with evocative depictions of seascapes and life along shores and beaches. The presentation invites viewers to pause and reflect on the intimate relationship between human experience and the natural world.
Karve, who hails from Sangli, has built a strong artistic foundation through his formal training, completing G.D. Art and Dip. A.Ed. from Kalavishwa Mahavidyalaya, Sangli. His practice has been further enriched under the guidance of Satyajit Varekar, a respected contemporary artist known for his own distinct visual language. From an early age, Karve has been deeply drawn to the omnipresent beauty of nature, observing its transformations across seasons and internalizing its rhythms. This lifelong engagement has shaped a visual vocabulary that is both intuitive and reflective, grounded in keen observation and emotional sensitivity.

A significant aspect of Karve’s artistic inquiry lies in his enduring fascination with the sea. The vastness of the ocean, the fluidity of waves, and the subtle interplay between movement and stillness have inspired him to explore marine life and coastal environments in depth. For Karve, the sea is not merely a subject but a living presence—dynamic, contemplative, and symbolic of continuity and change. This perspective finds a compelling expression in the works presented in this exhibition.
The exhibition brings together a cohesive body of work that explores multiple dimensions of coastal life and natural phenomena. The dynamism of sea waves is captured through rhythmic lines and layered textures, suggesting both energy and flow. At the same time, Karve skillfully renders moments of stillness—when the sea appears calm, reflective, and almost meditative. This contrast between movement and quietude creates a balanced visual narrative that resonates with viewers on both sensory and emotional levels.
Recurring motifs such as boats, shifting sands, and organic, petal-like patterns emerge across the works, forming a symbolic vocabulary that reflects life along the shore. These elements are not depicted in a purely literal manner; rather, they are interpreted through abstraction and stylization, allowing the viewer to engage with the imagery on a deeper, more contemplative level. The presence of human life—suggested through subtle references to coastal activities and environments—adds another layer of meaning, grounding the works in lived experience.
Karve’s use of lines, forms, and colour tones demonstrates a refined understanding of his medium. His compositions are thoughtfully structured, balancing detail with openness, and intensity with restraint. The colour palette often shifts between soft, muted tones and more vibrant accents, echoing the changing moods of nature itself. Through this careful orchestration of visual elements, he creates works that are both aesthetically compelling and emotionally resonant.
Ultimately, this exhibition reflects Karve’s deep emotional affinity with nature and his ability to translate that connection into a powerful visual language. His clarity of vision and command over technique lend a distinctive coherence to the body of work, making it not only a celebration of natural beauty but also a contemplative exploration of the rhythms that shape our world.
