Saikat Baksi’s “Trapped” Solo Show Opens at Vesavar Art Gallery

Vesavar Art Gallery is hosting a thought-provoking solo exhibition by author-artist Saikat Baksi, titled “Trapped”, running until September 9, 2025. The show presents conceptual artworks created over the past 15 years, reflecting the artist’s deep engagement with the human condition.

Baksi believes an artist must spend more time living life than before the canvas, since creativity, for him, arises from the victories and defeats of mortal existence. His works probe how mankind is ensnared in cobwebs of desire, greed, fear, sorrow, and ambition. He compares humanity to passengers aboard a train rushing toward destruction, too afraid to jump despite knowing the end.

The collection portrays the suffocating traps of habits, conventions, and comfort zones—bondages that people often accept unconsciously. Each piece conveys a sense of confinement, revealing the masks of diplomacy, hypocrisy, and falsehood that dominate modern life.

Baksi, widely recognized as a bestselling author of six novels and a book of poems, is also known for his podcast Art Beyond Canvas, where he discusses unusual turns in art history. His artworks, dark in tone and unflinching in subject, may divide opinion, but they demand attention and are not easily forgotten.

With “Trapped”, Vesavar Art Gallery offers viewers an unsettling yet memorable encounter with an artist who refuses to soften the truth.

An Exhibition of Paintings & Sculptures by 5 women artists - Seema Shirke, Bharati Bukte, Neha Gudge, Neeta Asalkar, Priyanka JagangadaNeha Gudge

Seema Shirke

Creative Sculptures (Emotions)

Under the guidance of her father and guru, the late sculptor B.R. Khedkar, Seema has learned the art of sculpture and established herself as a professional sculptor. Through the Jahangir exhibition, she was able to express her abstract art through sculptures. Nature and humans have an unbreakable bond since ancient times. However, in the course of human development, nature is getting harmed. Artist Seema, a sensitive sculptor, has realized this through her experiences, and this is evident in her current work. Trees, creepers, leaves, flowers in nature, as well as animals, have emotions similar to the human mind. She has expressed this through her sculptures.

Bharati Bukte

Divine expressions: where every brushstroke becomes a prayer -

After completing her Masters in Art and painting in 2007, artist Bharati Bukte has been working in the field of art for 18 years. She specializes in figurative and portraits in various media.

Highly inspired by vivid colours, graceful forms and intricate detailing in Kerala mural paintings , each of her work is both a visual celebration and a meditative experience.

Kerala mural paintings which are originated in 9th century, are known for their mesmerizing visual journey that reveals the stories of gods, goddesses, mythology and India's rich cultural heritage. These are Frescos that typically found on the walls of temples and palaces. Bharati has tried to present these paintings in different forms and colours.

Neha Gudge

“Ethereal Landscapes”

Neha Gudge, a Pune-based freelance artist, has been creating and exhibiting art for over 13 years. Specializing in acrylics and mixed media, her works have been showcased in more than eight group exhibitions and are also featured in numerous interior design projects and private collections.

The central theme of her current exhibition focuses on nature, represented through vibrant palettes and dynamic abstract forms. By blending harmony and spontaneity, Neha’s art reflects the rhythm of life while allowing viewers to connect with their own interpretations. She combines bold colours, layered textures, and expressive strokes to capture the beauty of the natural world.

Neeta Asalkar

Whispers of Nature

_The calm of nature, held in a brushstroke_

Neeta’s work centers on the meditative and restorative power of nature, expressed through watercolor. She transforms natural vistas into serene spaces that hold calm, vitality, and timeless stillness. Her paintings capture not just outward beauty, but also the quiet moods and harmonies of the natural world. By portraying shifting light, fragile ecosystems, and moments of stillness, she reveals nature as a source of reflection and renewal. Each painting invites viewers to pause, reconnect with simplicity, and find inner peace through harmony with the natural world.

Priyanka Jagangada

"Beyond the Brush"

Combining coffee Paintings & art. It features paintings on various subjects such as Warli art, Gond art, spirituality, heritage, and horses. Coffee painting is a type of a mural. She has been working in this field for the past 15 years. She has completed B.V.A in S.N.D.T college. It all started in college when she worked on a project on Warli art in her final year.

Warli art is a traditional art form of Maharashtra, closely connected to nature and earth. She experimented with using coffee with Warli art, and the shades of coffee enhanced the beauty of Warli while maintaining its original identity. This is because Warli art often features earthy tones like red, brown, chocolate, or black. The natural brown color of coffee added a rich and antique look to the mural.

After working with Warli, she gradually experimented with coffee paintings on other art forms like Madhubani, Deco, and Haida. She also fused acrylic with coffee in some paintings, creating a unique style. Some paintings are purely acrylic, while others are a fusion, and this blend has helped her develop a distinct style.

Prof. Sunil Kumar Saxena: A Journey Through Nature's Inner Mysteries

Nature is boundless in structure and infinite in form, and every artist strives often in vain to grasp its ever-shifting essence. Yet, it is within this very impossibility that art finds its poetry. Born in 1956, Professor Sunil Kumar Saxena has devoted nearly four decades to exploring this challenge. Educated in Kanpur, he has participated in

seven solo exhibitions, seven international exhibitions, and over a hundred group shows and art camps across India and abroad.

This show will be inaugurated on 9th September 2025 at 5.30 pm by Honorable Chief Guest Mr. Rajendra Patil, President, Bombay Art Society, Founder - India Art Festival, Guest of Honour Prof. Surendra Jagtap, Eminent Artist, Principal, J. K. Academy of Art and Design, Wadala, Mumbai, Treasurer, Bombay Art Society, Mumbai

For Prof. Saxena, landscape Paintings is not just a genre—it is a profound calling. He finds himself drawn not to the human presence within nature, but to nature’s enigmatic soul itself. His artworks dive deep into structural secrets and the layered beauty of terrain—mountains, rivers, and skies—which might appear familiar, yet, under his gaze, unveil hidden dimensions and emotional undercurrents.

In his visual world, blurred horizons, veiled mountain ranges, and mirrored reflections in water craft a dreamlike ambiance—one that compels viewers to look beyond the surface. His painterly language reflects a sophisticated understanding of space, light, and form. He does not merely depict nature; he interprets it, revealing layers of meaning that transcend visual representation and challenge the very boundaries of artistic expression. His abstract works transform natural elements into symbolic reflections of life. Mountains represent stability and strength; rivers suggest movement and continuity; clouds speak of life’s uncertainty; and the sky becomes a metaphor for freedom and spiritual longing. Through these expressive compositions, Saxena’s art functions as a metaphorical mirror of human existence. Nature, with its rhythmic cycles and inner divinity, profoundly influences human life. Prof. Saxena’s paintings invite the viewer to experience nature not as a static entity, but as a continuously unfolding mystery—one that captures fleeting moments while awakening wonder and introspection. His works are not mere depictions, but meditative explorations that resonate with emotional depth and philosophical inquiry.
